Context:

  • Surgefactory was a project started by Ben and Josh in 2013 before POWR.
  • The Surgefactory server is a separate linux box hosted on Rackspace
  • We have a few Wix Apps (currently Job board / Resume and some legacy sliders) that call this endpoint. If the server can't find a record in its DB, it then redirects the request to POWR servers.
  • Occasionally the server has an issue and you see an error like "Can't connect to mysql" or some other connection refused error. You can resolve these easily once you are able to log into this server (see below)
  • Ben has the most context into this server, if you need help try to contact Ben

How to fix

Step 1: SSH into server​

  • Visit 166.78.22.78 and get the credentials in lastpass for username "root". NOTE: The login creds are in the notes in lastpass for this site (since lastpass doesnt give permission to copy password field).
  • SSH into the server with the above credentials: `ssh root:[email protected]

Step 2: Resolve the issue​

  • If the error is a mysql error, you most likely just need to restart mysql: sudo service mysql restart
  • Sometimes the server runs out of space. You can clear up space by deleting old log files in var/log. There are all kinds of log files eg mail.log.1, mail.log.2.gz, syslog.1, syslog.2.gz ...etc. It is fine to delete old log files
